Help. Messages received but not emailed
« on: 12 Mar 2017, 18:44:59 »
Hello,
I am relatively new to PDW. We use it to receive fire calls and text page to members. The program is great and was working great until just recently. The filtered messages are being received just fine and the scanner is holding at 100%. For some reason, only certain emails are making it through. Two days ago, for example, I sent out a test page which was received and emailed. About two hours later, a call came in and was received on the computer just fine but never made it through email to the phones. I pull my hair out because I'm not sure about how to fix it. A lot of our members depend upon PDW to receive calls and I get worried that they aren't going to make it through.

Any help would be appreciated.
Kyle

Morning Kyle.
This is a known issue with the SMTP email part of PDW. There is currently no recovery/retry or logging of an error if PDW attempts to send an email but fails to be successful (eg because of congestion, server timeout etc).

See also (albeit not resolved):

Steve,

Would it make any sense to switch email addresses if the current email address that I am using doesn't seem to be putting the messages through?

Thanks,
Kyle

Hi Kyle,
I think the issue is more likely the link between the PDW PC and the first SMTP Server.

You can't do much about local network, any link congestion or link speed. Your ISP SMTP server is most likely the closest and therefore fastest, however it might be worth trying another SMTP server if you have access.

Maybe doing some ping testing between the SMTP Server choices you have and see if (at least at the ping level) there is any speed difference.

Changing email address but using the same SMTP server wouldn't do much.

Really needs a more resilient code in PDW to handle SMTP timeouts/retries but I suspect there is no enthusiasm to modify PDW now, albeit open source (and the best pager decoder around!).

Cheers
