Decoding Hebrew messages
« on: 24 Oct 2017, 11:15:55 »
HI all,

I am trying to decode POCSAG/FLEX messages written in Hebrew.
PDW 3.12 is indeed decoding the messages, but all is gibberish - no Hebrew, English or any other known language.
I have tried to change both character set to Hebrew and the "fonts" section in "display" label options.
Nothing helped.
The transmission is not encrypted.
According to manual, PDW 3.12 supports decoding messages written in Hebrew, so I cant figure out what is wrong here.

Any ideas/thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Rene?

I actually pointed yerez to the forum because I drew a blank.

On second thought, would it be an idea to try an older version of PDW?

Regards,
Rene

Well,  I have tried the old version.
Same problem.
The thing is numbers and english words are being decoded properly and only hebrew letters are the problem.
Can this has something to do with wrong ASCII code PDW is using or wrong char table is being used for binary data to text conversion?
Such a chart does exist (because hebrew character set is supported) and if I could replace it to the right one, things can get to work.
I have posted a picture of current "monitor message" section below.
As you can see, the numbers are decoded just fine and these are legit phone numbers in Israel.
Previous mesages included legit internet URL's that were decoded just fine.
Well, these are indications that only hebrew letters are the problem and that the messages are not encrypted.
So, I believe it's just a wrong conversion issue.
Maybe that would be more helpfull for you to figure this out.

Thnaks.

Have you tried modifying the language.df file?
