POCSAG Simulator
« on: 01 Jan 2018, 17:42:54 »
Hello,

I'm new to the forum and just started using PDW to build an in station alerting system for a fire department.  PDW is up and running fine and receiving all of the pages from the dispatch center.  I now need to work on some PHP scripts that will receive the filtered pages from PDW and process them for displays and some other functions.

Does anyone know of a POCSAG simulator that I could use to generate a POCSAG page on a Windows 7 machine.  Rene suggested this http://winpe.com/winpe/ but that just throws error on Windows 7.  I do not have an XP machine to use.

If anyone knows of such a utility or method to generate test POCSAG messages, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi pcolvin,
I can confirm that the app works on native XP SP3 (at least it makes a sound like a POCSAG 512baud signal), but it throws errors on Windows 10 (access violation in ntdll.dll) in XP SP3 compatibility mode. Even tried way back to Windows 95 compatibility mode without success.

The CHM file doesn't work in XP or W10 (tried several apps without success) so I don't know if there is something in there that provides additional instructions (like a driver installation).

A utility that can generate POCSAG data would be handy, however it's probably a bit late in the technology cycle to ask for one to be developed (unless someone can fix winpe-sc). But could try a request on the PDW developers forum.

Cheers
...Steve

I found this software - http://www.discriminator.nl/files/tx-pocsag.zip

The user interface is in German. Enter your message under 'Nachricht' and press 512, 1200 or 2400. Or enter any value and push  'Auswahl'. Multiple addresses and messages can be entered by pushing "+Meldung". "Präambellänge" is the preamble length. According to the POCSAG standard, this should be at least 576 bits.

Hope this helps.

Good work Rene - works on my W10 machine (or at least makes a sound). Need to work out how to feed that into PDW now.....:-)

This should work?  VidarParry, if you figure out how to get this into PDW, please let me know.  I may try one PC to another and see if that works.

Thanks for all the input.

One PC to another is an option. Or a virtual soundcard link like https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm on a single PC.

I have used WinPE-Sc with 100% success in the past, I had an old PC running Windows XP and I used a Motorola GM300 radio as the transmitter and it worked perfectly, the keying for the radio was done via the printer port. I didn’t have as much success using a newer laptop because of the newer sound card.

Just to let everyone know, the https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm works great after you tweak the levels.  Be sure to set the level in http://www.discriminator.nl/files/tx-pocsag.zip to the highest and things should work for you.

Thanks for all input.

Good morning everyone,

I'm aware that this is a very old topic, I would like try if someone are still on line.

The question is how can send from the computer to transmitter the message. I saw someone have used parallel port to radio or virtual cable, can ask some more detail.

I would use my laptop and Motorola repeater to send some message to advisor pager.

Many thanks
