No line in on HP Pavilion laptop

I have carried out the mod on my Bearcat 3500,ok .now I am wanting a patch lead to go from the scanner . Can I use any USB input on the laptop. The top and bottom of it is how do I connect the scanner to the laptop. Thanks for the help in trying to sort my problem.
Scanner output is 3.5 Jack socket. I would guess the plug will have to be a stereo type.

Ah, OK. The interfaces are for paging. For AIS, you need a soundcard. A cheap USB soundcard will do.
